Glenmore hosting STEM golf tournament
ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Organizations are partnering up to fundraise money to provide technology for kids who come from low-income households.
The golf tournament will take place Sept. 21 at the Club at Glenmore.
WillowTree and Innovative Software Solutions will sponsor the first-ever Drive for STEM Golf Tournament.
All profits will go to Computers-4-Kids and iD tech, to provide technology and mentorship to children who don't have access to these resources.
Charlie Rogers, the CEO of Software Solutions, says his own personal experience growing up was behind his support for this tournament.
"I grew up in the projects, I just knew there was something better on the other side," he said. "There had to be something better than this and all I need was someone to give me an opportunity, and that's what we're trying to do."
Rogers says he hopes to bridge the digital divide and provide life-changing opportunities for students to go on and become successful individuals.
